Meet the authorship team that dressed up this summer school program for success.
James F. Baumann - Program Author
A Program Author of Journeys Common Core © 2014, James F. Baumann is the Excellence in Higher Education Endowed Chair in Literacy and a professor in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Baumann's research addresses classroom applications of research and theory in reading pedagogy. Jim has conducted studies and published research on topics that include teaching reading comprehension, reading difficulties, reading assessment, the integrated use of literature and reading strategies, teacher research, national trends in elementary reading instruction, and teaching reading vocabulary. His co-edited book, Vocabulary Instruction: Research to Practice, addresses strategies and techniques for teaching elementary students to expand their word knowledge and use. Dr. Baumann's research has been supported by grants from agencies that include the U.S. Department of Education, the International Reading Association, and the NRRC. Jim is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Status of Reading Instruction Institute, the International Reading Association, and the International Reading Association’s Response to Intervention Commission. Dr. Baumann received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Michael F. Opitz - Program Author
Michael F. Opitz is Professor of Reading at the University of Northern Colorado, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate literacy courses. He is the author or coauthor of several books, including Diagnosis and Improvement in Reading Instruction, 5th ed. (Allyn & Bacon, 2007) Books and Beyond (Heinemann, 2006), Listen Hear! (Heinemann, 2005), and Goodbye Round Robin (Heinemann, 1998) as well as the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt reading programs Afterschool Achievers: Reading Club and Literacy by Design®.
Laura Robb - Program Author
Laura Robb has 43 years of classroom experience in Grades 4 through 8. Robb also coaches teachers in Grades K–12 in school districts in her home state of Virginia, New York, and Michigan and speaks at conferences throughout the country. Author of more than 15 books for teachers, Robb’s titles include Teaching Reading: A Complete Resource for Grades 4 and Up (Scholastic, 2006).
