  Jean-Paul Valette, Ph.D. - Program Author

  Jean-Paul Valette is a writer and educator. He and his wife, Rebecca Valette, have co-authored the Discovering French series and the French for Mastery and Spanish for Mastery series, as well as the introductory college language texts Contacts and Con mucho gusto. For several summers, Jean-Paul Valette served on the faculty of the Middlebury College Language School where he taught the intensive elementary French course. For his contributions to the promotion of French language and culture in the United States, Jean-Paul Valette has been named Officier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques. Recently the Valettes were recipients of the Saint Boniface Haiti Foundation Humanitarian Award for their efforts to improve the health and education of the children of Fond des Blancs.

  Rebecca M. Valette, Ph.D. - Program Author

  Rebecca M. Valette is Professor Emerita of Romance Languages at Boston College. An internationally recognized expert in the fields of language pedagogy and testing, Rebecca Valette has lectured and conducted workshops in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan, as well as throughout the United States and Canada. She has served the profession in many capacities, including Chairperson of the Foreign Language Section of the Modern Language Association and President of the American Association of Teachers of French. Rebecca Valette holds the prestigious rank of Commandeur de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques and has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite. She is the first United States educator to receive the Médaille d'Or de la Renaissance Française.
