  Meet some of the featured authors of ¡Avancemos!
  
  Audrey Heining-Boynton - Program Author
  
  Audrey L. Heining-Boynton received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Michigan State University. She has been a professor of Education and Romance Languages at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a national and international consultant in K–16 world languages. She has also taught Spanish, French, and ESL at the K–12 level. Dr. Heining-Boynton served as the president of ACTFL^®, the National Network for Early Language Learning, and is currently the President-elect of the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Associations. She has also been a board member of ACTFL as well as the Michigan and North Carolina state world language associations. She is the winner of the prestigious ACTFL Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina’s Teacher of the Year, and the UNC-CH Access Award for outstanding work with learning-disabled students. She has authored and co-authored over 150 books, articles, and curricula, and has made over 300 presentations at national and international conferences and meetings. She has won nearly 4 million dollars in grant money to improve instruction at the K–12 level.
  
  John De Mado - Creative Consultant
  
  John De Mado has been a vocal advocate for second-language acquisition in the United States for many years. He started his career as a middle/high school French and Spanish teacher before entering the educational publishing profession. Since 1993, Mr. De Mado has directed his own business, John De Mado Language Seminars, LLC., a company devoted exclusively to language acquisition issues. He has authored numerous books in French, Spanish, and ESL that span the K–12 curriculum. Mr. De Mado wrote and performed the ¡AvanzaRap! songs for Levels 1 and 2.
  
  Barbara Rupert Mondloch - Program Author
  
  Barbara Rupert Mondloch received degrees from Western Washington University and Pacific Lutheran University and an Ed.D. in Education Leadership from Washington State University. Her dissertation was entitled "Elementary Language Immersion: Lessons for Practitioners from Case Studies in Five States." A high school Spanish teacher for 18 years, she taught Level 1 through AP^® Spanish and implemented a FLES program in her district. As an elementary school principal, she hopes to increase access to early language learning. Dr. Mondloch served as president of ACTFL, the Pacific Northwest Council for Languages, and the Washington Association for Language Teaching. Co-author of two textbook programs in addition to other publications, she has presented at numerous local, regional and national language conferences. Among her honors, she received the Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Education, Spanish Teacher of the Year by the Juan de Fuca Chapter of AATSP, Inspirational Leadership Award from WAFLT and Outstanding Contribution to Language Teaching from PNCFL.
  
  Ricardo Otheguy - Program Author
  
  Ricardo Otheguy is Professor of Linguistics at the City University of New York's Graduate Center. He is also director of the Research Institute for the Study of Languages in Urban Society (RISLUS) and co-editor of the research journal Spanish in Context. He has extensive experience with school-based research and has written on topics related to Spanish grammar, bilingual education, and Spanish in the United States. His work has been supported by private and government foundations, including the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Otheguy received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the City University of New York.
