2nd Grade Curriculum

Second grade is a time to expand upon the reading and math skills students learned in first grade. In grade 2 students should be starting to read on their own – a classroom independent reading library is a great way to provide access to a wide variety of books. Students will write longer texts, using more detail or different types of text such as Opinion and Narrative. In math, 2nd graders will continue to practice addition and subtraction skills, at times using manipulatives as visual objects. Math word problems may also be encountered. In Social Studies, grade 2 students will begin learning about topics such as history and community. Science, students begin to explore their world building observation and data collection skills. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt invites you to explore the wealth of information about second grade curriculum.
